In these uncertain economic times, with dozens of pubs across the country closing down weekly, it's a joy to visit one that remains firmly at the heart of village life. Even with three other pubs in spitting distance, the Inglenook Hotel in Nytimber, nr Chichester, is thriving and welcomes both locals and newcomers alike.
I have a confession: as a teenager, I secretly wanted to be Shirley Valentine. Well, less the middle-aged lady part and more the '˜girl travels to Greek Island and falls in love with a tall, dark handsome local stranger' bit. Also, I love Greek food and the warmth of the Mediterranean sun on my back never goes amiss.
Events of the past few weeks have seen the airline industry take a battering, with many people admitting they'll think twice about taking un-necessary flights in future. As frustrating as the situation has been, I couldn't help but imagine the smiles on the faces of those at the UK's various tourist boards.
Like everybody, my choice of restaurant is often dictated by my mood or even the weather but neither of these two variables can stand in between me and a decent burger. It's simply a food for all seasons. With this thought in my head, last week I headed off to Rock and Roller '“ a 50s-inspired eaterie/pool hall that opened just six weeks ago in Brighton.
