In these uncertain economic times, with dozens of pubs across the country closing down weekly, it's a joy to visit one that remains firmly at the heart of village life. When I was a little girl, I loved going to my parents' favourite Italian restaurant for dinner because it was more like dining with family. The proprietor and his wife knew us well, welcoming us warmly on each visit, and the waiters always had time to chat with us.
